Player of the game

While Xavier Munford was the driving reason in why the Herd were able to pull out the W, Joel Bolomboy was instrumental in setting the tone for the team Friday afternoon.

In 34 minutes of action, the second-year pro put up 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field (7-of-8 from the line), eight boards, a steal and an assist each and was a -4 on the day.

As you can see, Bolomboy was incredibly efficient offensively once again and displayed more skills in his arsenal than just his penchant for cleaning up on the glass and capitalizing on second chance scores, though that did show through in moments.

Whether it was knocking down shots from mid-range, converting from the free throw line or putting his head down and bowling over anyone who stood in his way for one-on-one opportunities (or even on one-on-three situations occassionally), Bolomboy’s size, strength and athleticism was just too much for any of the Spurs’ cadre of big men to handle throughout the game.

But as his scoring came to a halt in the the game’s fourth quarter, Bolomboy managed to make an impact in other ways, the biggest example of that being his kick out to Jarvis Summers for a big three-pointer at the 6:53 mark of the period, which gave the Herd their first lead since the early minutes of the game.

All in all, it was the perfect cap to what was a fantastic showing from Bolomboy in the Herd’s trip up north of the border for this year’s Showcase and could be what warrants a team giving him another look on a possible two-way deal before Monday’s guarantee deadline.
