Wisconsin Herd’s playoff hopes take big hit with loss to Lakeland Magic
Player of the game
While his effectiveness faded down the stretch similar to the team’s overall performance throughout the second half, Friday night’s player of the game honors go to Herd swingman Ricky Ledo.
Starting out in his usual role at the 3-spot in the starting lineup, Ledo got down to business scoring the ball not long after the opening tip. That was helped by Ledo attacking the basket early and converting scores at the rim with a number of strong, crafty finishes through the paint and on the baseline.
Ledo paired that with either pulling up or finding space to spot up from beyond the three-point line and knocking down a number of treys as we moved further into the first half. Through the first two quarters, it looked as if Ledo was only getting started as he stood as the Herd’s scoring leader with 17 points going into the break.
But unfortunately, Ledo’s hot scoring night came to a halt midway through the third quarter. In total, Ledo finished with a team-high 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field (4-of-7 from three), six rebounds, two assists as well as two turnovers and was a -18 in 38 minutes of action.
While Ledo has certainly found his scoring groove since the Herd picked up play after the All-Star break, he still has to fight through those lingering consistency issues that we saw in full effect throughout the second half last night.
