Positive takeaway
Considering their struggles from three-point range throughout the night, the Herd had to rely on their ability to penetrate and score from within the paint to give them a realistic chance of swinging the game in their favor on Saturday night.
That they did as they outscored the Charge inside the paint all night long, eventually finishing with 62 points in the painted area compared to the Charge’s 46. That mark ranks well above their season scoring average within in the paint, which stood at 48.2 points entering the game, good for 13th in the G League.
It’s safe to assume the usual cast of characters played a big part in the team’s success within the paint, such as the Herd’s pair of penetrating ball handlers in Xavier Munford and JeQuan Lewis as well as big man Joel Bolomboy, who lived up to his highly efficient standards once again (16 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field).
But one seldom mentioned contributor who also stood out in this regard was Michael Dunigan, who scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field in his return to Canton, a place he called home for three seasons before coming to Oshkosh.
Scoring over double figures for the first time in over a month, Dunigan put home a wide array of finishes at the basket and on the block, showcasing those sly, savvy moves that he’s honed over the years during his time on the G League level.
