Concerning takeaway

As much as the Herd’s offense rounded into form as the night went along, the same can’t particularly be said about their defensive performance unfortunately.

To be fair, that speaks more to the Knicks’ hot shooting from all levels of the floor than the Herd’s own defensive failings, as the Knicks finished the night shooting 41-of-78 from the field (53 percent) and 12-of-28 from three (43 percent).

Diving deeper into how that came to be, the Knicks had five scorers post well over double figures, the more notable ones being Xavier Rathan-Mayes (23 points and 10 assists) and Knicks two-way player Luke Kornet (20 points, seven rebounds and three blocks), who has recently got some shine on the NBA level with the parent club.

And for the second straight game, the Herd broke out some zone defense to counteract the Knicks’ continuing offensive success, which worked out to mixed results at the very best.

On an unrelated note, Herd big man Joel Bolomboy left the game midway through the third quarter with an apparent hip/leg injury. If it’s as bothersome as it looked when it happened live, it’d truly be a shame to see Bolomboy miss the final game of the season after all he’s achieved while with the Herd this season.
