In spite of suffering from gastroenteritis and spending much of the day on fluids, Ben Simmons took to the court in Atlanta on Tuesday night and produced the kind of performance that will likely see him crowned as this season’s rookie of the year.
Simmons is a matchup terror, who makes an impact on both ends of the floor, and seems to have an awareness and understanding that most players with considerably more experience could only dream of.
For the season overall, Simmons is averaging 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.8 steals on 54.7 percent shooting from the field.
If Giannis Antetokounmpo remains out for a third successive game on Wednesday, the Bucks will have a particularly hard time finding someone with the combination of size, length and speed to put pressure on Simmons.
If Simmons is on his game, even Antetokounmpo could be tested in a way that not many players are capable of achieving against him.
