5. Trading for Bledsoe

It’s incredible to think what a huge role social media has to play in today’€™s sporting landscape. One tweet is all it took to forever change the look of the Milwaukee Bucks’ roster. After being benched late last season in Phoenix as they attempted to tank for a better draft pick, many had thought Bledsoe would be moved in the offseason as the Suns embraced a new youthful core.

As the new season rolled around however, Bledsoe remained in Phoenix and began the season as normal. However after playing in three consecutive losses, including a 48-point blowout against Portland and the subsequent firing of head coach Earl Watson, Bledsoe had had enough.

He was immediately removed from all team duties as the front office opened trade talks with teams around the NBA for the talented guard. After multiple weeks of trade rumors, Bledsoe was finally traded to the Bucks for Greg Monroe’€™s expiring deal and a protected first and second round pick.

At the time, Bucks fandom was split on the deal. Removing Monroe meant that Milwaukee’s center rotation consisted of Thon Maker and John Henson, both of whom had proven inconsistent in previous years.

But more importantly, giving up a first round selection for a score-first point guard to pair next to Giannis Antetokounmpo was considered by some to be a foolish proposition. They needn’t have worried as Bledsoe has been superb since the trade. Immediately after he was inserted into the lineup, the Bucks went on a four-game winning streak and the Bucks newest Big Three was born.

It is true that Bledsoe’s game does not fit seamlessly with the Greek Freak, but his talent is undeniable and heading forward, talent is going to be key for the Bucks. If there’s a chance that Milwaukee can take some pressure off Antetokounmpo during the regular season they have to seize it. In trading for Bledsoe they did just that and he has rewarded them accordingly.
