Conclusion

As we’ve laid out all throughout this preview, the Bucks have an edge over the Celtics in not only having a full bench unit at their disposal, but one that can give the Bucks an added dimension in theory.

The one thing that hangs over all of this is just what kind of rotation Bucks interim head coach Joe Prunty will deploy throughout this series.

It’s safe to say we’ll see big doses of Jabari Parker, Malcolm Brogdon, Tyler Zeller and Jason Terry to give the team a lift when needed. Beyond that, though, it’s hard to figure what kind of roles if any will be carved out for the team’s more maligned reserves (i.e. Thon Maker, Brandon Jennings) and players fresh from lengthy absences like Matthew Dellavedova.

For all the intangibles he brings to the Bucks when on the floor and the thought of him getting in a playoff scrum is surely tantalizing from an entertainment perspective, rookie Sterling Brown’s late season form suggests he may not be long for more than a cameo here and there, especially since his three-point shot has faded down the stretch.

On the flip side, forward Shabazz Muhammad has generally performed well since coming to Milwaukee in early March, but the high-usage role he often plays in doesn’t overlap well with the Bucks’ primary offensive forces.

In any event, a shortened, consistent rotation would certainly go a long way in the Bucks crafting some stability when calling on their reserves to give them a higher margin for error than we’ve seen all throughout the regular season.

After all, the well-drilled Celtics have that down to a T and while they might not have the names that pop out at you as someone to key in on within the second unit, they know precisely what needs to be done in order to keep things running smoothly all throughout 48 minutes.
