Milwaukee Bucks: Takeaways from 104-102 Game 4 win over Boston Celtics
The thunders from down under
The Bucks’ Australian contingent, Thon Maker and Matthew Dellavedova, both put their imprint on the team’s win over the Celtics on Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight postseason run, the 21-year-old Maker has been a revelation as he’s been a wrecking ball defensively, swatting or altering shots at the rim and challenging savvy and reliable big men for the Celtics such as Al Horford. Maker also dabbled into some extra curricular activities as he and Celtics big man Aron Baynes got into a few Donnie Wahlberg-brooks on two separate occasions in the game.
Tying that together with impressive shotmaking in the times the ball swung his way, the second-year big man put up eight points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field (2-of-5 from downtown), five blocks, two rebounds, one assist as well as one turnover and was a +4 in close to 31 minutes of burn. And to think, he was logging a slew of DNP-CD’s over the course of the last month.
As for Dellavedova, the 27-year-old gave the Bucks some level-headedness off the bench, a necessity with starting point guard Eric Bledsoe finishing with a mixed showing once again.
Dellavedova’s moment of brilliance for the afternoon came at the end of the first quarter as he sprung to prey on the Celtics’ lackadaisical inbounds pass with just a second to go in the period to scoop up a buzzer beating lay up, giving the Bucks a seven-point lead after one.
While that stood as his lone made field goal for the day (Delly did knock down two free throws, giving him four points on the day), Dellavedova also added four assists, three rebounds, one turnover as well as one steal and was a +12 in just over 17 minutes.
