NBA Draft 2018 Prospect Watch: Mitchell Robinson
Strengths
Standing at 7’1″ and armed with a 7’4″ wingspan, Robinson is a genuinely physical and athletic specimen for a player of his position. Those gifts are exactly what permeates every facet of his game at this moment.
Offensively, Robinson’s a threat primarily at the rim, whether it’s slamming home alley-oops or finishing at the rim out of pick-and-roll situations. While he has shown capabilities of stretching out to fire away shots from beyond the perimeter, it’s hardly a dependable tool in his arsenal to believe it will translate instantly entering the NBA, if it ever does.
It’s on the defensive end where Robinson’s appeal as a prospect could vault him into the late lottery or just outside of it, if you take into account the questions regarding the depth of this year’s class after the top-10.
Considering his size, length and pogo stick-like hops, Robinson has the potential to become a premier shot blocker, provided he develops along the right path to further flesh out his raw ability into something greater.
Whether the Florida native can stretch out to defend ball handlers in space is a bit of a question mark, but it would take him away from the part of his game that looks to be the most impactful straight away.
