NBA Draft 2018 Prospect Watch: Dzanan Musa
By Adam McGee
Strengths
Musa boasts the skill-set of a guard with the height of a forward, standing at 6’9″ tall. That makes Musa a dynamic offensive threat as he can use his advantage in quickness alongside a reliable handle to create a variety of scoring opportunities.
Musa excels out of the pick-and-roll or in isolation, as he’s capable of pulling up from distance or weaving through defenders to get to the basket.
A large part of that comes from Musa’s incredible confidence which doubles as one of his greatest strengths and one of his greatest weaknesses.
While Musa’s far from the steadiest shooter in terms of percentages, that tends to come down to his shot-selection more than any lack of ability. Musa’s range extends comfortably beyond the NBA three-point line and he’s highly accomplished when it comes to shooting on the move.
Musa’s height opens up further advantages for him over the average defender, as he’s perfectly equipped to pass over his man to find teammates cutting toward the basket.
Confident and skilled, there’s a lot to like about Musa’s offensive output, but his overall game can best be typified as a positive aggression. Musa lives in attack mode, whether hunting for shots or gambling in the passing lanes.
Much of that may translate to him being effective in the NBA, and those who are optimistic have plenty of evidence to point to for how he could improve further with the right guidance.
While there are examples that can point to the positive and negative consequences of it, Musa’s relentless competitive nature is not in doubt. When he feels valued and is fully engaged, work ethic won’t be a problem.
