Weaknesses

For as much as he projects well as a player entering the NBA in this day and age, there are plenty of concerns over whether Bates-Diop can handle the jump in athleticism from the collegiate level.

That obviously revolves around whether Bates-Diop can find and capitalize on the same physical advantages in mismatches, but also in being able to rely on building up his skills, considering he’s not a top level athlete.

Additionally, similar qualms center around the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year’s physicality and how he’ll be able to withstand stronger, hard-nosed opponents, should he slot down as a small ball 4 or even 5.

Combining all of that with his age (22 years old), there will be questions over just where Bates-Diop will top out in his development and just how much he can add to his skill set.

Lastly, Bates-Diop will have to address worries from NBA officials over his intangibles, specifically regarding his motor.
