Milwaukee Bucks 2017-18 Season Review: John Henson
The best of Henson
Coming into the season with plenty of motivation to make his last two seasons a distant memory, Henson revitalized his standing within the team’s rotation and on the Bucks’ roster in general once the season was underway.
Henson supplanting Thon Maker in the Bucks’ starting lineup two weeks into the season only further emphasized that point and it went beyond Maker’s sophomore struggles.
The 27-year-old served as the Bucks’ capable fifth starter and flourished in his low-usage role as he registered his most efficient season of his career, going by field goal percentage (57.2 percent), effective field goal percentage (57.3 percent) and true shooting percentage (58.2 percent), all coming on 8.8 points per game.
Henson’s impact in the starting lineup and being on the floor in general shows beyond traditional numbers as he ranked the highest in terms of net rating of any Buck that was with the team for the entire regular season, per NBA.com/stats (as a contractual stipulation with my fellow co-site expert, Adam McGee, I’m supposed to say Shabazz Muhammad logged a higher net rating through his short stint this year).
Never a particularly strong or proficient rebounder, Henson showed a more consistent effort to battle on the defensive glass as well, seeing that he logged his highest average of defensive rebounds per game (4.8) and his defensive rebounding percentage (21.5 percent) stands as the second-highest mark of his career.
