NBA Draft 2018 Prospect Watch: Shake Milton
Strengths
As has been noted often in various draft profiles in relation to what he brings to both ends of the floor, the key to Milton’s game is his versatility.
Considering he slotted in as the Mustangs’ starting point guard, Milton was able to initiate the team’s offense and create scoring opportunities for himself and for others.
Along with that, Milton has built up plenty of craft when penetrating the paint, as evidenced by the fact he knocked down 85 percent of his foul shots while maintaining a free throw rate of 40.5 percent this season.
But by far and away, Milton’s greatest strength on the offensive side of the ball is being able to hit at a highly efficient rate from downtown, considering he shot 42.7 percent on 5.1 three-point attempts over his three seasons at SMU.
Switching over to what he brings defensively, Milton is a stout on-ball defender, one who can snuff out plays or actions before they develop.
Since he stands at 6’6″ and possesses a seven-foot wingspan, there’s plenty of optimism that Milton will be able to check opposing guards and wings once he’s finished acclimating to NBA-level competition.
