Summer focus and final grade

The first order of business this summer as it pertains to Zeller will be whether the Bucks will guarantee his salary next season.

Despite my internet sleuthing, there’s been no reported date for when Zeller’s salary becomes guaranteed, but at just under $2 million, it feels safe to lean towards the Bucks minting that figure in their books at this point with the cap crunch they face (though, anything is bound to happen).

While that’s certainly the most pressing question for the 28-year-old in regards to his future in Milwaukee, Zeller’s fit on the court doesn’t have the same level of uncertainty hanging over it.

As has been the case over the last few years, the long-term solution at the center spot for the Bucks still doesn’t look to have an answer as the roster is currently constructed. As a result, Zeller and his frontcourt mates in John Henson and Thon Maker more or less stand on the same footing in terms of how the depth chart could shake out.

With new Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer now in the mix, it’s way too early to tell how he views the center rotation and who will get the nod with the first unit once training camp is underway.

We’re obviously getting way ahead of ourselves at this point, especially as we’ve yet to reach the key points in the offseason at this time of writing. First and foremost, we’ll have to see if Zeller’s stay in Milwaukee will be extended beyond this season.
