Fit with the Bucks

Still without a long-term solution at the position, the Bucks will be grappling with what to do at the center spot for the foreseeable future.

Of course, they have what they hope is a long-term answer in Thon Maker, but the idea of what the 21-year-old could be hasn’t translated to the court on a consistent basis through his first two seasons in the league.

When envisioning what Wagner could bring to the table for the Bucks, it’s important to note that he wouldn’t resolve that open-ended question currently looming over the roster.

At best, Wagner projects to be a rotational big and although he’s assured that he’s capable of taking on such a role through his play this year, there are still plenty of qualms he has to sort out in regard to his defensive play.

With that said, the former Alba Berlin product’s offensive capabilities, fiery nature and high work ethic would suit well with the Bucks and under new head coach Mike Budenholzer. However, it’s hard to go any farther with picturing what Wagner could bring to this Bucks team when they only hold one selection in this year’s draft at this time.

And considering he’s primarily viewed as a second round pick at this point in the process, it’s hard to imagine Wagner vaulting into the shortlist of players the Bucks will consider with the 17th overall pick.

As my co-site expert Adam McGee wrote about Wednesday morning, it certainly would behoove the Bucks to secure another selection deeper in the draft, considering the level of projectable role players such as Wagner that are littered throughout the draft.

Unless that changes, though, it’s hard to imagine someone like Wagner coming to Milwaukee solely for that reason.
