Fit with the Bucks

Running counter to our recent run of draft profiles, Walker stands to be one of the rare prospects we’ve previewed to this point who may not be on the board by the time the Bucks are on the clock at 17, that is if his current projections are any indication.

But in the event that he is available, there’s no reason to think the Bucks wouldn’t take a long, hard look at Walker at that spot, faults and all.

Walker’s budding skill set would be a boon for a Bucks team that still has long-term questions regarding their backcourt, seeing that both Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon will be impending unrestricted free agents this time next summer.

Secondly, the two-way potential Walker possesses is quite enticing and with the Bucks needing to add some juice into the mix, whether that’s adding another shot creator or an active, engaged defender at the guard or wing position, he may be the player to plug those holes, should he if follow down the right track.

With that said, the range of outcomes concerning what kind or level of player Walker becomes over time is quite volatile and much work will need to be done to help him harness the potential he clearly holds.

Now that the team has resolved the thread regarding who will be on new head coach Mike Budenholzer’s staff, there should be newfound optimism in taking a player who still leans on the rawer side like Walker, considering the 48-year-old’s player development pedigree.

In short, it’s simply out of the Bucks’ hands as to whether Walker will be under consideration at 17 due to the rising interest teams ahead of them in the draft order have in him. Should he fall on draft night, though, it’s quite hard to imagine the Bucks passing up a player of Walker’s potential, unless someone else really wows them in the process.
