Strengths
To start it off, Alkins’ physical profile (6’4″ and 6’8.75″ wingspan) is the ideal makeup for the versatile, 3-and-D wing role he projects to play in the NBA.
While there is plenty of concern about the defensive form he displayed during his sophomore season, the Brooklyn native put his tools to good use on the defensive end throughout his freshman year as he was a stout, physical defender on the ball.
Switching over to the offensive side of the ball, Alkins proved to be a solid, albeit unspectacular three-point shooter during his two seasons in Tuscon seeing that he knocked down 77 of his 211 attempts from beyond the arc (36.5 percent).
As much as he’ll be asked to continue and hopefully improve on his outside shooting, Alkins is capable of creating his own shot as well as acting as a secondary or tertiary playmaker against scrambling defenses, considering his background of being a lead ball handler during high school.
Lastly, with the physical and athletic gifts he possesses, Alkins is a deft finisher at the basket as he converted 49 of his 73 attempts at the rim this season (67.1 percent), per Will Schreefer’s shot chart tool over at The Stepien. That mark placed him in the 70th percentile for wings this year.
