Weaknesses
Despite getting back up to speed midseason and even improving on his body after the end of the Wildcats’ season this year, as evidenced by his strong athletic testing at this year’s NBA Draft Combine, NBA teams will be doing plenty of background checks on Alkins’ foot injury.
As far as his concerns on the court go, for all the defensive versatility he projects, Alkins still has to improve as an off-ball defender. With that said, that comes with the caveat of the Wildcats’ situation/schematic issues as well as Alkins’ health issues playing a factor in his effort and engagement level.
Additionally, Alkins could stand to refine his three-point shooting ability a bit and may take some time adjusting to the NBA three-point line upon making the jump.
And while he may be capable of creating looks off the dribble at this stage in his development, Alkins’ ball handling and decision making is fairly rudimentary at this point, considering he tallied a 16.6 turnover pecentage over his two seasons at Arizona, per Sports-Reference.com.
