Looney’s fit with the Bucks is a fascinating one. The Bucks have spent the last few seasons searching for answers at the 5 spot with a varied mix of big men, yet they have never had the chance to play with a center like Looney.

While the shape of Budenholzer’s Bucks’ defense remains an unknown at this point, Looney would seem like a perfect fit for the kind of switch-heavy scheme that many believe best suits Milwaukee’s personnel.

In short, Looney could provide much of the same flexibility that Thon Maker offers at center when the Bucks turn to that approach, but with the ability to execute in a more controlled and polished fashion.

Adding hometown players is a popular move all around the NBA, but as a former Wisconsin Mr. Basketball, a McDonald’s All American from Alexander Hamilton High School, and now a two-time NBA champion, Looney’s signing would inevitably resonate with the people of Milwaukee.

Heading into a new arena, there’s likely never a better time for a signing of that nature, yet sentiment would be just an element of a move for Looney, rather than the driving force.
