Fit with the Bucks
As much as the mere idea of considering Allen as a prospect will illicit long eye rolls or other strong reactions from Bucks fans, it’s undeniable that the former McDonald’s All-American brings something of interest to the team in a couple of areas.
Having a dynamic shooter like the type Allen projects to be would certainly add a different dimension to a backcourt that is mostly static, catch and shoot options from beyond the perimeter.
Add in the fact Allen is able to create looks off the dribble for himself and for his teammates on occasion and it certainly boosts the variety of ways he can be utilized within an NBA team’s offense.
On the other side of the coin, though, it’s hard to reconcile with the fact that Allen’s upside is very limited and he will very likely be a liability defensively in some shape or form, capping his ceiling ever further as a prospect.
Those two faults make it hard to believe that Allen will ultimately work his way in the conversation at 17 for the Bucks, considering the number of appealing two-way wings that are slotted within that range.
With that said, we do know that Allen worked out for the Bucks recently as he mentioned it himself during an interview this week with Bill Reiter of CBS Sports. Seeing that the Bucks have elected to keep all things quiet on the draft front during this process, that’s certainly an added wrinkle that can’t be said for many other first round prospects, at least of this writing.

Unless the Bucks are able to work their way into adding another pick deeper in the draft, whether late in the first or early in the second, the road is quite murky for Allen when it comes to him ending up a Buck late next week.
