After experiencing his freshman season at Duke University, shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. went down the one-and-done route by declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Nearly two weeks after the Duke Blue Devils were bounced out of this year’s NCAA Tournament at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks, freshman wing Gary Trent Jr. officially declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Doing so while simultaneously hiring an agent and forgoing his final three years of eligibility, Trent was intent on following his father’s footsteps by taking the jump to the next level at this point in time.

After all, Trent’s father, Gary Sr., was a nine-year NBA veteran from 1995-2004 before finishing up his career overseas the following three years (Trent Sr. was also drafted 11th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1995 NBA Draft).

More from Bucks Draft

While Trent certainly comes from a basketball pedigree, the Duke product crafted a prestigious career in the amateur ranks, considering he stood as the 17th best recruit in his class, per 247 Sports.

Not only that, but Trent also represented Team USA as part of the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in 2015 held in Argentina and again in 2016 for the FIBA U17 World Championship in Spain, coming away with gold medals at both competitions.

Now on the cusp of achieving his dream of playing in the NBA, Trent’s decision had his father’s unwavering support as Trent Sr. told Jonathan M. Alexander of the News Observer shortly after his son’s announcement to declare for the draft:

"“If I didn’t feel my son had a strong enough mindset, a strong enough character and a strong enough work ethic, I would not recommend this for him and he would not consider it himself,” he said. This is not a forced decision by Duke. This is not a forced decision by his family. “This is a dream that he wanted to pursue.”"

So without further ado, let’s dive deep into Gary Trent Jr.’s game, see where draft experts tab his range less than a week away from the draft and examine his potential fit with the Milwaukee Bucks.
