Milwaukee Bucks: Players who could benefit most from Mike Budenholzer
By Ben Rauman
The Superstar: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the arrival of Mike Budenholzer is none other than the Greek Freak himself.
Coming off an MVP-caliber season that saw him set career highs in points, rebounds and field goal percentage, it’s hard to imagine how much better Giannis could get.
Picture this: Giannis finds himself in an offense that makes sense. They run plays. Players set screens. Shooters get open. The offense runs through him but doesn’t force him to take it himself every time.
This is how you could unlock the ultimate version of the Greek Freak. Without so much pressure to make it happen on his own every time, he can focus on other aspects of his game like his vision or his defense.
Maybe Bud will unleash Point Giannis once more to wreak havoc on opposing defenses. Or maybe he’ll push the pace of the offense and take advantage of having one of the best fast break scorers in the league.
No matter what happens, it’s a win for Giannis. He now has one of the best developmental coaching staffs in the league at his disposal. We may see him do things next season we never thought were possible even now.
Last season, his fatigue was evident. Recurring ankle issues plagued him throughout the season, a clear sign of overwork. Fresh legs are crucial in the playoffs.
A scheme and coach that makes him and the players around him better is what will keep Giannis in Milwaukee long-term.
In conclusion, Coach Budenholzer brings a lot to the table in regards to player development and the ability to maximize the talent on his roster. This Bucks team is by far the most talented he has coached.
