Weaknesses

For as adept and polished as he is on the offensive end, Scott leaves a lot to be desired defensively.

Standing at 6’8″, armed with a 6’11” wingspan and weighing in at/or around 235 lbs., Scott possesses fine physical tools that theoretically make him a passable defender on paper and competes more often than not on that end of the floor.

But Scott’s lack of lateral athleticism lets him down considerably in trying to defend one-on-one or having to maneuver pick and rolls as teams around the league have often exploited through his time in the league.

For a frame of reference, Scott recorded the second highest defensive rating of his career at 107.2 points per 100 possessions and the Wizards performed better defensively without Scott on the floor, seeing that they allowed 105.6 points per 100 possessions in 2565 minutes without the Virginia native.

Moving on from Scott’s defensive limitations, the 29-year-old stands as a gunner through and through.

Although he actually registered a career high 80 assists in Washington this year, Scott’s playmaking capabilities are far from fleshed out as evidenced by the fact that he posted a 1.01 assist-to-turnover ratio to go along with it.

Scott’s gunner instincts may also raise alarm bells to some fans reagrding whether he could deliver a similar impact on the floor if he isn’t shooting the ball to the degree he did this year in the nation’s capital.
