Looking at DiVincenzo’s Playing Style

At 6’4.5″, DiVincenzo stands firmly as a combo guard who brings an attractive mix of scoring capabilities, both on and off the ball.

Based on his consistent three-point proficiency during his time at Villanova, DiVincenzo possesses a very smooth and sound shot that can extend beyond the NBA three-point line at this stage in his development, as evidenced by this shot chart by Synergy Sports Technology.

The threat of DiVincenzo’s markmanship opens up his ability to attack off the dribble where the 21-year-old’s shooting mechanics are reinforced with his effective in-between game.

On the finishing front, the combination of DiVincenzo’s high level of athleticism, skilled deft touch with both hands and penchant to absorb contact on his way to the basket makes him an effective finisher, considering he put home 60 of his 90 attempts at the rim this year, per WIll Schreefer’s shot chart tool over at The Stepien.

DiVincenzo also displays a good feel for the game when it comes to operating in pick-and-roll situations, though questions exist over just how refined he is as a playmaker and at what capacity he’s suitable to thrive in at this point in his development.

Switching sides, DiVincenzo is prone to compete as a defender and is very willing to make winning plays, especially when it comes to crashing the glass defensively.

But with his below average physical tools as he has a 6’6″ wingspan, subpar instincts and whether he’ll be able to cover NBA-caliber athletes, it’s tough to determine just how much his engagement will mitigate his physical limitations in that sense.
