Milwaukee Bucks: 10 potential mid-level exception NBA free agency targets
By Adam McGee
J.J. Redick
J.J. Redick enjoyed a colossal pay day with the 76ers last summer, but unless Philadelphia strikes out with higher profile free agent targets this summer, there may not be an avenue for him to earn a similar deal this time around.
Saying that, Redick’s free agency situation is undoubtedly difficult to get a firm handle on. In spite of being 34 years old, Redick is coming off the back of a career year and boasts a skill-set that is showing no signs of decreasing in value in the years to come.
Redick embraced a veteran leadership role on an up-and-coming team with the Sixers, and ultimately proved to be a decisive reason why they were able to take significant strides forward in such a short period of time.
With the limited number of teams with cap space around the league, particularly teams in the kind of competitive situations that Redick likely desires, there’s a chance that he ends up in a position where he’s incredibly in-demand but with teams who are unable to offer anything more than the full MLE.
Of course, the idea of Redick in Milwaukee may be incredibly far-fetched due to the way his previously brief stay with the Bucks went so disastrously wrong, but the Bucks are a much-changed franchise since then and there’s no disputing Redick’s fit.
Redick would act as an ideal complement alongside Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and a player who Mike Budenholzer could likely get the very best out of on a short term deal. The chances of a Redick return are certainly slim, but his free agency may be far from straightforward and will certainly be worth monitoring in the days and weeks ahead.
