Milwaukee Bucks: 10 potential mid-level exception NBA free agency targets

Ed Davis
Ed Davis differs from a lot of the players mentioned here as he doesn’t boast eye-popping scoring or generally gaudy stats, while he also lacks the name recognition of many of the other intriguing players hitting the open market this summer.
What Davis can offer is incredibly solid and intelligent contributions and decision-making from the center position, along with great length and the added mobility that comes with a frame that once would have been considered a little on the small side for an NBA center.
The 29-year-old has spent much of his career shifting back-and-forth between starting and coming off the bench, something that certainly returned to prominence with the addition of Jusuf Nurkic in Portland.
At his age, Davis is very much going to be what he is as a player, but it’s not impossible that he may be able to reach new levels in a situation where he could have a sustained spell in a starting role.
Davis has a solid scoring touch around the basket, but much of his value comes from his stellar rebounding ability and knack for blocking shots. Davis’ career averages of 6.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game are certainly solid for a bench big, while adjusted to 11.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per 36 minutes they become all the more intriguing.
Davis has indicated he likes playing in Portland and is willing to return, while point guard Damian Lillard has previously stated the importance of the Blazers retaining Davis. Considering the Blazers’ cap situation that may prove to be a real challenge, though, and could open the door for another team to steal Davis away. Maybe even at a bargain price.
