Milwaukee Bucks: 10 potential mid-level exception NBA free agency targets
By Adam McGee
Tyreke Evans
Tyreke Evans enjoyed a phenomenal season with the Grizzlies last season, but easily the most surprising element of his renaissance year was the fact that it didn’t include a mid-season trade to a more competitive team.
Evans was one of the players whose name was an ever-present in the rumor mill heading up to the trade deadline, yet in spite of their obviously lost season, the Grizzlies decided against cashing in on Evans’ good play in exchange for future assets.
This is particularly relevant when considering the Bucks as a potential free agent suitor for Evans’ services, as they were reported as one of the teams who had hoped to acquire the 28-year-old in the middle of last season.
With his play in Memphis, Evans provided everyone with a timely reminder of the dynamic skill-set that originally earned him Rookie of the Year honors when he entered the league, but also showed signs of a valuable addition to his arsenal.
As a career 31.8 percent three-point shooter, Evans’ 39.9 percent from deep on 5.5 attempts per game in Memphis last season was a dramatic improvement that rapidly made him seem like a much more comfortable fit in the modern NBA.
That one-year sample may leave many with a justified sense of skepticism, but as a skilled scorer, passer and rebounder already, the prospect alone of an above average three-point stroke will certainly be enough to leave Evans in-demand this summer.
