Salary

Seeing that he was on the cusp of entering the final season of a four-year, $16 million deal that was inked following a sign-and trade deal between the Knicks and the Magic in July of 2015, O’Quinn recently opted out of his current contract via a player option to make him an unrestricted free agent.

Despite that decision, O’Quinn is keeping the door open for potentially returning back to his hometown team as he told Brian Parsons of WAVY last week when hosting his youth basketball camp in Norfolk, Virginia:

"“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” O’Quinn said.  “That’s the chance you take and I think that I’m in a good position that I put myself in and the rest will handle itself. I’ve done all I can do and I think that I will find a home in the next couple of weeks.” I had a good year with them, they are my home team. I know the GM and they have interest, you never know what happens. I hate to use the line, but it’s a business at the end of the day.”"

Since O’Quinn’s decision to enter free agency, however, the Knicks went ahead and drafted one of, if not the biggest mysteries in this year’s draft in Mitchell Robinson with the 36th overall pick.

Not only that, but the Knicks have big question marks hanging over their frontcourt with Enes Kanter’s player option deadline looming before the start of free agency as well as whatever the hell is going on with Joakim Noah, who was sent away by the team after he and former head coach Jeff Hornacek butted heads in a verbal altercation midway through this season.

As the Knicks look to sort out their big men situation, O’Quinn looks to be in position to sort out his own future before the team is able to decide their own.
