Player of the game

If not for a poor fourth quarter, Sterling Brown would have been a lock to grab last night’s player of the game honors. So with that in mind, Sunday’s player of the game honors go to point guard Travis Trice.

In 21 minutes of action, Trice put up a team-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field (2-of-3 from three), three assists, one rebound, one steal and one turnover and was a +8 on the evening.

The Spartan alum got off to a hot start once play got underway inside Cox Pavilion as he knocked down fading jump shots from the mid-range area and buried a three to set the tone for his efficient night from all levels of the floor.

While Trice was unable to keep his hot scoring pace, he nonetheless managed to drain timely shots when needed and remained selfless in setting up potential scoring opportunities for his teammates as well as taking care of the ball when it was in his hands.

Trice’s biggest moments of brilliance came late in the fourth quarter when the Bucks were on the verge of being out of range of swinging the game their way miraculously.

First, Trice forced a turnover and promptly rushed to the basket to make it a three-point game with 53 seconds to go in regulation. 12 seconds later, Trice put home an absolutely dazzling, acrobatic lay up that banked high off the glass to continue to offer the Bucks a puncher’s chance while down 3.

Unfortunately, that would be as far as the Bucks would take it, but Trice made his mark on the game overall and added to his solid Summer League with the Bucks as a whole.
