Player of the game

Having buried the lede for this long, it’s time to dive into Sterling Brown’s strong performance Monday night, which is very deserving of last night’s player of the game honors.

Playing a team-high 30 minutes, Brown posted a game-high 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field (2-of-6 from three), seven rebounds, four turnovers, three assists, one steal and was a -5 on the night.

All throughout the game, Brown powered the way for the Bucks offensively as he took the reins as the Bucks’ lead ball-handler. That worked to great effect for Brown’s individual game as he was seen putting home several tough finishes at the rim with both his left and right hand and was nearly automatic when pulling up from the mid-range area as well.

Combining that with his couple of makes from three-point range and his doggedness for chasing down rebounds on both ends and Brown’s play looked very similar to his three assignments with the Wisconsin Herd last season when tasked with a similar, high-usage role.

The one flaw you can pick at in the 23-year-old’s showing was that his distribution and overall precision when looking to feed his teammates wasn’t the cleanest, as evidenced by his turnover tally for the night.

With that said, Brown had a moment of brilliance in that regard by lofting a pitch-perfect dime to a rolling T.J. Cline midway through the fourth quarter to bring the Bucks within 4 at the 2:46 mark.

Save for his tough fourth quarter play Sunday night, Brown has arguably been the Bucks’ brightest spot throughout their brief time in Las Vegas so far, to all of Bucks fans’ delight.

The Bucks will now move into the tournament portion of Summer League, which is set to begin on Wednesday. As of this writing, their next opponent and the time of the game is TBD.
