Final Summer League impressions

Now that the Bucks’ yearly Summer League trip has wrapped up, it’s time to briefly reflect on what we saw during their week long stay in Las Vegas.

For starters, the Bucks winning their first tournament game since the summer of 2015 gave an added wrinkle that we obviously haven’t seen in the last couple of summers, despite it ending in familiar fashion.

But for the most part, how everything unfolded regarding the play of the players on the Bucks’ roster likely reinforced your feelings on their respective developments. That all begins with Sterling Brown and despite the rough close he had in Vegas, his standout performance against the Denver Nuggets in the preliminary round will keep Bucks fans reassured regarding where he stands at this stage in his game.

While D.J Wilson’s second Summer League venture was dampened last night, he did display some interesting moments, albeit on an occasionally scattered, inconsistent basis. The questions about his NBA readiness, however, will undoubtedly persist going into the start of training camp and beyond.

Of course, DiVincenzo’s abbreviated rookie Summer League was not the note fans were hoping he’d start out on, even with his right groin injury factored in. Hopefully, that doesn’t stand as a precursor for what may be to come and stands strictly as a Summer League caveat.

The big question that Bucks fans will likely be following throughout what’s left in the offseason is what becomes of Christian Wood as it relates to the possibility of him parlaying his Summer League stint into a spot on Milwaukee’s roster.

There may be as many as two roster spots open for the Bucks, depending on what the team does with Brandon Jennings and Tyler Zeller. With that said, adding another big to their suddenly crowded frontcourt situation may not be the area the Bucks will look to address from here on out.

Lastly, it’s always possible we’ll see some of the undrafted players come to the Fox Valley to play for the Bucks’ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, alongside JeQuan Lewis and James Blackmon Jr.

And with that, we bid adieu to the vast desertland and many attractions of Las Vegas and wait for the start of training camp/preseason to catch our next glimpses of Bucks basketball.
