D.J. Wilson
Prediction: Will star with the Wisconsin Herd
Why it will happen: The idea of D.J. Wilson being a capable NBA player is becoming more unlikely seemingly by the day. One year after being taken in the first round of the draft, Wilson has done little to nothing to separate himself as a player worthy of being on the bench of an NBA team.
With that being said, I got the chance to see Wilson play for the Bucks’ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, a couple of times last season and he looked pretty good in that context. When Wilson doesn’t have to bang against NBA bodies and can be the focal point of the offense, he looks much more comfortable and effective.
His weak defense and rebounding don’t matter quite as much in the G League because, well, he’s not alone on that front. With the additions to the roster, including a new coach who has no obligation to Wilson, expect him to spend more time in Oshkosh putting up big numbers for the Herd.
Why it won’t happen: Perhaps Wilson got a lot better at basketball while we weren’t looking and actually warrants a spot on the NBA roster.
What are your bold predictions for the Bucks this season?
