Milwaukee Bucks: 5 goals for Sterling Brown in 2018-19 season
Continue contributions on the glass
Brown’s physical nature and instincts features prominently in his overall defensive services, but it extends beyond his qualities as an individual defender.
As we covered throughout the offseason, it most notably shows in his tendency to attack and clean up on the glass on the defensive end as he compiled 5.4 defensive rebounds per 36 minutes as well as a 17.5 defensive rebounding percentage in his rookie season with the Bucks.
To expand on that further, Brown posted a 60.4 defensive rebounding chance percentage, per Second Spectrum’s tracking data, all of which points to his instincts and being able to be in the right position to fight for 50/50 balls.
Having a player of Brown’s position and stature track back on the boards can be critical to filling out small ball or versatile lineups. With the variety of lineups the Bucks will potentially roll out this year, given their personnel, Brown looms large in any equation under Budenholzer.
Should the Bucks show a marked improvement on rebounding the ball defensively than they have in some time, Brown having an increased role may be one of a few factors that we can look to as the year goes on.
