Cinmeon Bowers
Making the Herd’s roster by way of a local tryout, Cinmeon Bowers will look to make his mark in the G League after spending the last couple of seasons overseas.
Born in Racine, Bowers has dealt with his fair share of adversity throughout his basketball journey, all of which led to it being more wayward than what was initially envisioned for the 6’7″ forward/center.
As John Steppe of The Marquette Wire detailed in his profile on the 25-year-old, Bowers was being recruited heavily by D-I schools like DePaul, Iowa, Memphis and the Golden Eagles before he was shot five times in his leg and thigh as he was set to start playing his junior year at Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee.
A grueling year-and-a-half rehabilitation followed for Bowers where he had to learn how to walk again following the shooting. Meanwhile, all of the interest Bowers had from Division 1 schools around the country dried up.
Returning back to the form he was at before the incident, Bowers took his talents to a junior college in Florida, Chipola University, to try to get back on track in his basketball career. Following his two-year stint at Chipola, Bowers transferred to Auburn University after landing a scholarship from head coach Bruce Pearl.
Bowers’ time with the Tigers was productive in that it helped him launch his professional career where he has since played in Israel, the Philippines and most recently, the Japanese second division league.
Now after representing the Marquette squad in this year’s edition of The Basketball Tournament over the summer, Bowers will give the Herd some hometown flavor and continue his remarkable turnaround in his playing career.
