Milwaukee Bucks: The impact of Pat Connaughton
By Ben Rauman
Moving forward
After signing for close to the minimum over the summer and starting off the year riding the pine, Pat Connaughton has become a true impact player off the bench for the Milwaukee Bucks this season.
He has shown himself to have a high basketball IQ when it comes to knowing his strengths and limitations while picking his spots to contribute within the Bucks’ scheme.
His unique blend of off-ball activity, high energy defense and rebounding have made him a valuable rotation piece for the Bucks moving forward, and his superior athleticism combined with his willingness to give 100 percent effort has given them a lift whenever he steps foot on the floor.
While he’s excelled in a bench role for Milwaukee, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if we saw Connaughton eventually pressure Malcolm Brogdon for starting minutes. His chemistry with Giannis and ability to do his work off the ball make a strong case for him to step into a starting role in the future.
Although he has only started a combined six games in his NBA career to date, the fourth year wing could see that number increase this season.
One thing’s for sure, the Bucks got a bargain when they picked up Pat Connaughton this offseason.
