Fit with the Bucks

With his stock locked into being taken early in the second round, it’s looking very likely like Roby will be available for selection by the time the Bucks are on the clock with the 30th overall pick.

That alone doesn’t place Roby into automatic consideration by the Bucks’ brass, but he certainly checks a number of boxes for the type of players they’ve historically taken at various points in the draft. Although the Bucks have been on total lockdown about who comes in and works out for the second straight year, Robin Washut of Husker Online relayed that Roby had come through Milwaukee for a pre-draft workout.

But Roby’s blend of size, athleticism and mobility makes him a tantalizing diamond in the rough-type prospect and his defensive pedigree at the college level only raises the upside and type of player he may end up becoming down the road.

Of course, projecting what Roby can become only goes so far without him developing a consistent jumper to fill out the prototypical stretch-4 player he seems tailor-made to play.

There’s plenty of overlap between Roby and current Bucks forward D.J. Wilson‘s skill sets and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the two didn’t share uncanny similarities in where their respective games were and are coming out of college.

Betting on Roby contributing positively upon hitting the big leagues looks a little far fetched at this point. However, with a little more development coming in the G League, he could be a steal as he comes into his own and unlocks his skill set to pair with his athletic and physical qualities.

Whether the Bucks will be that team to take on that proposition is the question and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see some buzz brew between the two parties once draft night comes along.
