Fit with the Bucks
With Dort’s draft stock ranging anywhere from late in the first round to the early going in the second round, nothing is guaranteed as to whether the Bucks will have to ponder selecting Dort come draft night.
In the case that he is available by the time the Bucks are on the clock, however, he stands as a tantalizing, yet questionable fit to the blueprint they built this season around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo under head coach Mike Budenholzer.
All of the intangibles Dort possesses and the high octane nature he utilizes on seemingly every possession suggest that the 20-year-old is a player every team dreams of having on their roster. Although he won’t take on such a heavy load on the next level, the baseline of production and ball skills are interesting enough to think about, even in a more supportive role.
However, the questions over his shooting will test his viability to become a true 3-and-D specialist and it doesn’t stand as a simple fix as he develops into becoming a professional next season.
Even with the free agency questions revolving around the Bucks’ starting 2-guard, Malcolm Brogdon, Milwaukee’s wing rotation looks quite full between Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton, Donte DiVincenzo and Tony Snell at the moment.
So with the positional need not really there, the combination of Dort possibly overwhelming key Bucks decision makers and them believing in his development trajectory will have to win out if he ends up in a Bucks uniform less than a week from now.
