Kevin Porter Jr.

Not too long ago, it would have seemed almost impossible that Porter Jr. could be available as late as the final pick in the first round. For that reason, he hasn’t really been on our radar for the Bucks in the same way as a large number of other prospects, but recent murmurings suggest that should probably change.

A player who was slated by many as a lottery pick throughout much of the draft process, Porter Jr.’s stock has slipped across notable mock drafts in recent weeks (see: here and here for just two examples) and the suggestion is his attitude and work ethic have emerged as major question marks.

Those are red flags that would equally scare the Bucks off, if not more so than other teams, but Porter Jr.’s talent would undoubtedly force them to consider him in the still somewhat unlikely event he was to fall all the way to the end of the first round.

From a skill perspective, Porter Jr.’s shooting and defense would certainly need some fine-tuning, although there are already positive glimpses of potential present. The former USC Trojan is already a skilled creator, in both a passing and scoring capacity, an accomplished ball-handler, and an outstanding prospect from a physical perspective considering he’s just turned 19.

If he makes it all the way to the Bucks, it will only be because of the elements of risk attached, but the potential reward may be greater with Porter Jr. than with any prospect that could realistically fall into Milwaukee’s range.
