Philadelphia 76ers

Much like Malcolm Brogdon, Middleton makes for a logical alternative for the 76ers if either Jimmy Butler or Tobias Harris were to walk away in free agency. The problem for Philadelphia comes in the sequencing. By the time they’d find out Harris or Butler were moving on, it would in all likelihood be too late to move on Middleton.

Butler’s playoff play certainly appears to have won over hearts and minds in Philadelphia, but there is a case to be made that Middleton would be a better fit in a team built around Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and that’s before even considering he’s younger and with a lot less checkered past when it comes to injuries.

As was evident with the Bucks this season, it’s not quite accurate to say Middleton thrives without the ball in his hands as a purely spot-up shooter, but he’s certainly better or, more importantly, more comfortable than Butler in that role.

Of course, a Sixers’ pursuit of Middleton would come with the added bonus, for Philadelphia, of hurting a rival.

All indications suggest the Bucks are prepared to pay Middleton the max, but ensuring they’re pushed to that point would be in the interest of those competing with Milwaukee, that is if they can’t actually lure him away and deal a more decisive blow.
