Wesley Matthews

Another veteran wing who may have sentimental reasons for eyeing a deal with the Bucks this summer is Wesley Matthews.

Matthews’ family is steeped in Wisconsin basketball history as his father, a two-time NBA champion, played at the University of Wisconsin, while Jr. went from earning Wisconsin Mr. Basketball honors at James Madison Memorial to starring at Marquette during his college career.

Since then, Matthews has carved out a considerable niche for himself as a 3-and-D wing in the NBA, and even at 32 years old, the appeal of his skill-set remains obvious.

Through 10 seasons in the NBA to date, Matthews has made 38.2 percent of his 5.6 three-point attempts per game, meaning he still offers proven floor spacing. Additionally, Matthews’ size and strength makes him a tough and versatile defender who can be utilized in a variety of different lineup types and styles.

Matthews may well still attract interest around the mid-level from teams across the NBA, but with over $100 million in career earnings to date, the prospect of taking something of a discount to return home and chase a championship may well appeal to him.
