Kyle O’Quinn

Returning to free agency for the second consecutive summer, Kyle O’Quinn will be hoping to find a team and deal that works much better for him this year than how things played out 12 months ago.

When the Pacers snapped up O’Quinn for $4.4 million last summer, the consensus was it was a good deal for both sides as O’Quinn would finally get a chance to be a meaningful contributor to a playoff team and Indiana would have the luxury of a quality backup big man.

As the season played out, though, minutes proved to be very difficult to come by for the 29-year-old. O’Quinn played just 45 games over the course of the year, and logged a paltry two minutes in Indiana’s playoff series against the Celtics.

Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis barred O’Quinn’s path to minutes last season, and the addition of Goga Bitadze via the draft indicates there’ll be no place for O’Quinn with the Pacers next season either.

With a meaningful role, O’Quinn still has all of the tools to be a really impactful contributor on a playoff team. O’Quinn’s a proven rim-protector with formidable strength inside, and a stellar screen setter on the offensive end of the floor.

The energy big is likely less valued than ever before in the NBA, which doesn’t bode well for Kyle O’Quinn’s bank account this summer but could yet benefit a team such as the Bucks.
