Milwaukee Bucks: Grades for Brook Lopez’s four-year, $52 million deal
Role
As all Bucks fans are keenly aware after having seen him in Milwaukee last season, Lopez will continue his stronghold as the team’s starting center.
Lopez walked in to operating as the Bucks’ starting center upon joining the fold last summer and the team’s center rotation is completely bare in comparison to what it looked like this time a year ago. More to the point, Lopez started in every game he appeared until he was rested in the Bucks’ regular season finale to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Bucks will also reportedly be getting a reinforcement in that regard in Brook’s brother, Robin Lopez, who will certainly fortify the team’s center rotation going into next season. As serviceable as his brother is, he doesn’t stand as a threat to Brook’s starting role, given the disparity in what both provide offensively in spacing the floor at the moment.
Whether the arrival of Robin will help the Bucks manage Brook’s workload to maintain his health and effectiveness is a topic we could see at some point over the course of the season. But that’s getting a little ahead of ourselves at the moment.
