Looking at Atlanta

As mentioned previously, the Hawks are slated to tip off their Summer League run Saturday afternoon when they face off against the Bucks in Las Vegas.

Despite standing as one of the more promising teams in terms of the core they’re building under general manager Travis Schlenk, the Hawks’ Summer League team is lacking some star power.

Of course, that can be tied to the absence of second-year guard and Rookie of the Year runner up, Trae Young, who’s not listed on the Hawks’ Summer League roster. But one of Atlanta’s latest lottery picks in Cam Reddish will be sidelined throughout their time in Vegas as he’s still recovering from surgery to repair a core muscle following the end to his lone season at Duke University.

It’s not a question of whether fellow lottery pick and first rounder, De’Andre Hunter and Bruno Fernando, will participate in Summer League action this year, respectively, However, both are tied up in trades that have yet to be approved by the league as they turn over to the new league calendar as Jeff Siegel of Peachtree Hoops outlined Friday.

As a result, the Hawks will currently rely on second-year forward Omari Spellman, second-year guard Jaylen Adams and new two-way player Charlie Brown Jr. to lead the way for the squad going into the team’s opening Summer League tilt.
