Signing Wesley Matthews

Next, the Bucks turned to the free agency market to address the hole left at their shooting guard position after they traded Malcolm Brogdon to the Pacers. To fill that spot, Milwaukee brought in veteran guard, Wesley Matthews, on a veteran minimum contract.

Matthews was a great add, especially at just a minimum contract. He may not be the player he was prior to his Achilles injury, but Matthews is still a solid offensive talent. He’s been very good at shooting from three, especially on catch-and-shoot opportunities, and he can do a good job of moving the ball and playing within the flow of an offense He should help the team replace some of the floor spacing that Brogdon provided.

Defensively, he’s not an elite talent anymore, but he can at least do a passable job defending multiple positions. He may not be an asset on that end of the court, but he won’t be a liability either.

He doesn’t replace much of what Brogdon provided, but the Bucks did well to get a player who should still be good enough to start, and do a serviceable job while doing so, next season. This was exactly the kind of signing they needed to make.
