Signing Thanasis Antetokounmpo

After a few days lull in the market, Milwaukee next turned their sites on to forward Thanasis Antetokounmo, brother of their franchise player Giannis Antetokounmpo. They signed him him to a two-year NBA deal.

Thanasis was an unexciting signing. He does provide the team with additional depth on the wing, but whether he can contribute anything productive at the NBA level remains to be seen.

He hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2016 season, and his production in his time abroad doesn’t suggest he’s made many strides since then.

This looks like a move designed to help keep the Bucks’ star player happy more than anything else. If it proves to be more than that, it’s a bonus. And if it does prove to help persuade Antetokounmpo to sign a super-max extension next summer, it will undoubtedly be worth it.
