Milwaukee Bucks: Selecting an All-Decade roster
By Ben Sewell
8. Monta Ellis
Seasons: 2
Averages: 18.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6 assists (41.9 FG%; 28.4 3PT%)
Monta Ellis was the definition of high volume during his time in Milwaukee.
Ellis averaged 37.2 minutes per contest across the two seasons he played for the Bucks, which is the fifth highest in franchise history. Ellis gave everything he had during this time and although his methods never equated to anything significant, he endeared himself to an entire franchise, starved of any actual stars for so long.
He formed a dynamic backcourt duo with Brandon Jennings as they led Milwaukee to the playoffs in 2013 where they were ultimately outplayed by LeBron James and the Heat. The two undersized guards were often criticised for their lack of defense and were given the unwanted label of being ‘chuckers’.
But the numbers fall in Ellis’ favor, and to average nearly 19/4/6 across more than one season means he ultimately deserves a place on this All-Decade team. In fact, Ellis came within a whisker of starting for this team at shooting guard, save for a certain other shooting guard who like Ellis, left Milwaukee in favour of the Indiana Pacers.
