Pat Connaughton

Connaughton on the Bucks’ offseason moves:

"“I think our depth got extremely deeper, and we were a deep team last year so I think that says a lot. I think one of the best things about it is the veteran presence that we brought in. I think for us young guys, it’ll be great to learn from the likes of Robin, Kyle, and Wesley. Guys who have been there, have made runs, have been in the playoffs, have their own specific skill-set that they’re really good at, and have obviously been in the league a long time. So I think any time you’re able to gain some knowledge from people like that, it will only help you personally and team-wise.”"

Connaughton on the competition at shooting guard:

"“I think it’s great to have. It’s an 82-game season, so it’s a long year. You never know what’s going to happen. Personally, I went through some ups and downs last years, and I think I’m stronger this year because of it. But I think being able to compete against guys on a day-to-day basis is only going to help grow us as a team. And I think guys have been great as far as understanding, yeah, it’s a business, but it’s also a team. You want to have that balance of competing against the guy next to you, but also understanding that there’s 15 guys on a roster and it would be very difficult for a coach to play everybody. So you want to make sure you’re being as supportive as possible, because the team comes before the individual and I think that’s what we did so well last year, understanding that team success could breed individual succes, and not vice versa.”"

Connaughton on learning from the loss to the Raptors:

"“Unfortunately, I think you learn a lot more from losing than you do from winning, so for us, obviously, it left a bad taste in our mouth. But it’s not something that we can just not look at. If we don’t learn from it, then we’re not getting better. So to be able to learn from that loss and learn from the things that worked, but more importantly the things that didn’t work. I think the biggest thing is starting to build the foundation, like we did last year, this year.”"
