Wesley Matthews

Matthews on returning to his home state of Wisconsin:

"“Coming back home is a sentimental feeling, and one that you can’t quite describe. And to see the success, the growth of the city, the growth of the state, what this Bucks organization and what this team has done, I come back and I don’t even recognize some of the stuff around here. It’s cool, and I’m excited to be a part of it. Winning is huge, and I just feel that what I bring as a player fits perfectly with what this team is about.”"

Matthews on what he thinks he’ll bring to the Bucks:

"“They were already the No. 1 defensive team last year, so I’ll try not to mess that up! They already shot the hell out of the 3-ball, so I’ll try not to mess that up! Really, just enhance everything. Bring a different perspective, a leadership type role. I’m going to be the first in the trenches, and that’s just how this team is built.”"

Matthews on whether he’d previously thought about coming home:

"“They were always a team that I watched, always a team that I appreciated and respected. Always a team that I wanted to do well, even when they weren’t doing so well. I always wanted them to do well because it was still home and all my friends were Bucks fans. But the last five, six years when things started to click, things started to change, as players we’ve all been on different teams and you kind of keep your eye on things, and obviously home was always something that I kept my eye on. I think two years ago, one of my boys asked me, ‘Would you ever come back home?’, and I was like ‘Yeah, I could see that.” And then just the way everything shook up, it worked out this year. It was the time to do it and I’m excited to be here.”"
