108.13

When the Bucks went through their unconvincing start to the season, I took a closer look at the team’s increased pace, and proposed that it was a potential source of many of the Bucks’ problems.

A week on, there’s a strong chance that I was wrong, and that the Bucks instead just needed a little bit of time to adjust to their breakneck tempo and make smarter decisions for how they want to play beyond pushing the pace.

Over the course of their win streak, the Bucks have averaged the third highest mark for pace in the NBA at 108.13, trailing only the Timberwolves and the Nets in that category.

The Bucks increased effectiveness while playing at such pace can largely be credited to improved shot selection, as much in terms of who takes early shot clock shots for the Bucks as with how many they take as a team.

At their best last year, the Bucks forced opponents to play at their speed and on their terms. That has certainly been the case over the past week, but now opponents are being asked to maintain an even more rapid tempo in matching up with Milwaukee.
