Playing with heavy hearts

Tuesday night is shaping up to be a surreal night in Milwaukee in the aftermath of legendary Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant‘s death Sunday afternoon in California.

With this being the first time the Bucks are playing a game in the wake of Bryant’s untimely, tragic death, this game will surely include a remembrance for the five-time NBA champion and discussion of what is absolutely a gigantic loss in the basketball community and world at large.

The influence of Bryant reached all players in the league and the connection that he developed with Bucks superstar Giannis Anteokounmpo over the last few years following his playing days gave us a first-hand look at how he touched and even challenged young players to fulfill their potential, just like Antetokounmpo did.

And the reigning MVP reiterated his adoration for Bryant and what he represented for basketball fans as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Matt Velazquez relayed follow his media availability late Monday afternoon:

"“It’s going to be hard for another basketball player to view me as I view Kobe,” Antetokounmpo said. “Kobe was one of the best basketball players to play the game. He was put on this Earth to be one of the best. “When I’m gone, if I can impact people’s lives the way Kobe impacted mine and people’s lives around the world, that would be a blessing.”"

Antetokounmpo only speaks to how all of his peers, former players and teammates surely feel in light of losing the giant that Bryant was and it will certainly be some time before there’s a sense of normalcy in the basketball world.
